Where and how do you all store your doll hats, for example Josies straw riding hat? We will be getting Kit's new outfit so there's another hat that will be hanging from a bedpost for lack of proper storage. Would love to have small round hat boxes to keep them in, I'm thinking they aren't real hard to make, has anyone ever done this?
Thanks a bunch,
Mary D

I keep mine in those small, plascit, stacked, pull out drawer boxes. I can keep other accessories in with the hats too, but only one hat fits per drawer.

I have 1'x1'x1' canvas boxes I got from Lowes. They're open on the top and have a little canvas handle. I keep all the hats, undies, aprons, hair ribbons, etc. in the boxes. Each doll has one or two (depends on how many hats they have).
My husband made me a pretty storage thingie to hold the canvas boxes, but you could put them on any shelf system.

I have one of those round plastic boxes that cakes come in from the grocery store bakery. I just washed it out really good, and use it upside down, so the bottom is now the lid. It's great because you see what's inside.
When I've sold a doll outfit that has a matching straw hat, I've shipped the hat inside the same type of plastic container, only it's a small bowl, with a domed lid. Originally held take-out salad.
Can you tell I like to recycle? You just need to put these things through the dish washer, or if you don't have a dishwasher, wash really good in hot sudsy water. These types of container are really good for shipping items you don't want crushed, and they don't add weight. I also pack a lot of items with foam egg cartons. Opened up, they're great for cushioning the bottom and sides of a box.

We have actually made hat boxes out of the paper mache' ones that you can get at the craft store. They've only a dollar or two a piece, so they're very inexpensive. We've done this for some of my DD's other dolls and we're going to make a new one for Samantha's meet hat. You can either paint them OR you can glue colorful paper onto them. That's the method that I like best because they look more authentic. Sometimes we use wallpaper scraps especially border scraps then hot glue (or tacky glue) ribbon trim or rick rack etc. around the top so that it looks just like a real little hatbox. I will try to round one up this weekend and take a picture for you.
In fact, we will try to make our new one and take step by step pics. Hope this helps!
